Illegal Gambling Ads on Radio and TV in Finland About to End

by Administrator

The days of illegal gambling ads are about to be over in Finland. The country’s Police and Transport and Communications Agency Traficom is hot on the trail of perpetrators. Gambling TV and radio ads are the main targets.

There are some exceptions. The government-owned Veikkaus or Finnish national betting agency can run and promote gambling that is sanctioned by authorities. Nothing else will be allowed in the realm of marketing.

There must be something behind this decision. Apparently, Veikkaus has announced the cause: the rising digital competition and digital channel business operations. In addition, there has been a call for more stringent gambling regulations by the National Institute for Health and Welfare.

The advertising is the culprit according to all sources. Veikkaus, of course, will have to follow suit.
